CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK 2017

Each year, the Catholic community of Ontario engages in a week-long celebration of the unique identity and distinctive contributions of Catholic education during Catholic Education Week. This year’s celebration is entitled, “Catholic Education: Walking Forward Together” and will be held during the week of April 30 – May 5, 2017. The overall scriptural theme is “Do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with your God” –Micah 6:8.

At St. Bernadette we plan to celebrate this week with the following special events:

Monday, May 1 – Music Monday Assembly 1:30 in multipurpose room:

Music Monday is a celebration of music and the importance of music education.  Each year, students from across Canada enter a song writing competition to be the next “Anthem” for Music Monday.  This year, being Canada’s 150th anniversary, well-known Canadian song writers came together to write the Music Monday Anthem which beautifully embodies Canadian sounds and landscapes.  St. Bernadette’s will be celebrating Music Monday by putting on a concert where the primary and junior choirs will be singing the Music Monday anthem as well as a few other Canadian pieces.  We will be incorporating Canada 150 celebrations into this concert by having students share some of their assignments, projects or art activities they have done pertaining to Canada. We have also had some student ambassadors take videos of staff and students, asking them “What Music means to them” and “What it means to be Canadian”. Parents/Guardians are most welcome to come and join us for this wonderful event. We thank Mrs. Parisi for all her hard work in organizing this day!

NOTE we ask that children come dressed in red and white (and any Canadian “bling” they have) to show their pride in Canada.

Thursday, May 4 – Family Science Night 6:15 to 8:00

Come out and join St. Bernadette Catholic School Council for our free “Family Science Night”. The funding for this program has been generously provided by the Ontario Ministry of Education, through the Parent Reaching Out Grant. This will give you an opportunity to experience the type of activities the children are involved in when we have the Scientist in the School in their classes – you and your children will explore a variety of fun science and math activities (details on the activities are on the reversed side of the form). All of our activities use everyday materials so that learning can easily extend beyond the workshop into your home. We need parents to pre-register for this event and there are still spots available. A registration form has gone home listing the events which are available (you will find this form in the forms/letter section of this site). Please fill it in and return it to the school by April 27th, 2017.

Friday, May 5 – Jump Rope for Heart – 1:30

This day we hold our Jump Rope event for the Heart and Stroke Association. We thank you in advance for your generosity if supporting this important cause!
