June Update

Dear St. Bernadette Families,

It is hard to believe but we have quickly moved from spring to summer and our last month of the 2017-18 school year is upon us.  We have many exciting things planned for this month.

Yearbooks were delivered today.  Thank you Mrs. Phipps for the amazing photography and capturing the year in this beautiful keepsake.  We have an additional 15 yearbooks for sale. Please contact Mrs. Pacelli with your payment of $21 as soon as possible as we will sell the books on a first come first serve basis.

Our Grade 4,5 and 6 students have been learning about the Election process and preparing for Election Day in Ontario.  Today, they participated in Student Votes and the results will be released after the election on Thursday June 7th at 9:00 pm. Remember to get out there and vote.

On Friday June 8th, we will be hosting our Play Outside Day.  Staff from Georgina Healthy Kids will be on site to provide students with opportunities to use imaginative play with a variety of materials found around the home (cardboard boxes, sonotubes, buckets, chalk, skipping ropes, tires etc.)  Your child will be outside for the entire hour, so please ensure you send in their re-usable water bottle, sunscreen and a sunhat. Our rain date has been scheduled for Friday June 15th. Please see the attached letter from Healthy Kids.

Students will be outside during the following times:

– Kindergarten – 9:20-10:20 am

– Grades 1, 1/2 – 11:00 – 12:00 pm

– Grades 2, 2/3 – 1:20 – 2:20 pm

– Grade 3/4, 4/5 and 5/6 – 2:30 – 3:30 pm

Thank you Georgina Healthy Kids and our parent volunteers Jodi Scetto and Debi Chambers.

Ms. Mallen, Mrs. Ewing and Mrs. Spalla classes will be visiting the Georgina Art Gallery next week and participating in a Art Workshop.

Special thank you to our wonderful teacher advisors, Mrs. Phipps, Ms. Bogdan, Ms. Gallo and Mrs. Veri-Roy for organizing the Annual SBE Talent Show.  A dress rehearsal will take place on Thursday June 14th at 1:30 pm in the gym. All parents and family members are invited to the Talent Show performance that evening at 6:30 pm.  Come and check out the amazing talent at SBE!!

Our Junior students will be participating at our Annual Track and Field at St. Maximillian Kolbe on Wednesday June 20th.  We look forward to some healthy competition in the 100 metre, 200 metre, 400 metre, relay, long jump and high jump events.

On Friday June 22nd at 11:00 am, we will gather at Immaculate Conception Parish for our year end Mass.  All families are invited to join us. Immediately, after the Mass, we will be hosting a Volunteer Appreciation Tea in the multi-purpose room.  We are so grateful for all of the volunteer work our parents do on a regular basis and we wish to honour YOU!! Join our staff and drop in for some refreshments and cheer.

During the Tea, we will be presenting Father Sherwin with a small token of our appreciation.  We wish to thank him for the past 6 years in serving our community and we wish him many blessings as he embarks on his pilgrimage to the Holy Land and Spain.   We look forward to welcoming Father Paul Hancko, current Pastor of  St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church Schomberg, and St. Mary Roman Catholic Church Nobleton.

We also wish to thank and acknowledge our past Treasurer of the Catholic School Council, Rose Sheppard.  Rose has done an outstanding job in maintaining the finances of our Catholic School Council for over 20 years.

We close our final week of school by saying farewell to our Grade 6 class.  We will celebrate their achievements with a luncheon and recognition at the Briars on Monday June 25th.  Our Kindergarten year end celebration will take place on Wednesday June 27th at 1:30 pm.

This year, we wish to end on our final day with a year-end Jamboree.  Jamboree will kick off at 9:30 am on Thursday June 28th. All parents are invited to join in the festivities as we celebrate a year of learning and bid a fond farewell to all staff and students that are leaving us.
