ECO School Update – Litterless Lunches

Dear St. Bernadette Families,

For the remainder of the year, Wednesdays have been designated as Litterless Lunch Days at St. Bernadette’s in an effort to reduce waste. Our ECO team has calculated through a waste audit, that each student generates approximately 8.6 kg of waste and 8.8 kg of recycling per year at school. We hope to reduce this number by encouraging families to send litterless lunches. Students are encouraged to pack their lunch in reusable containers rather than plastic wrapping. We are also encouraging our students to “boomerang” all organic waste back home where it can be composted in your home compost bin.

Through our water bottle campaign, students were able to reduce disposable water bottle consumption throughout the school. During the campaign, we tracked classes and Mrs. Quinn’s Kindergarten class used the greatest amount of reusable drink bottles. Congratulations and way to go!! They have won a class pizza party on St. Bernadette’s Earth Day, April 20th.

We thank you for your ongoing support in working to make St. Bernadette’s an ECO friendly school.
