ALLERGY ALERT
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Our school is nut safe as we have students with a potentially life-threatening form of allergic reaction called anaphylaxis.
If any of the allergens are ingested, the allergic reaction could be fatal within minutes. Just touching a surface where this food has been, can trigger a severe allergic reaction. Please ensure that any food items sent to school in your child’s lunches or snacks do not contain these ingredients.
While the staff is trained and prepared to respond to any allergy emergency and the school’s anaphylactic procedures are consistent with our Board’s policy and procedures, we all know that prevention is one of the best ways to ensure that all students are safe.
Suggested strategies for Home & School:• First and foremost, we ask that you read product labels to ensure that the ingredients are allergen free. If you are unsure about the product, please refrain from including this food item in your child’s snack or lunch. IF IN DOUBT, PLEASE DO NOT SEND.• Please refrain from sending your child with products containing eggs or nuts such as mayonnaise, hummus, and egg based salad dressings.• Discuss with your child the contents of their lunch to assure them that all food items are safe.• Remind children – NO sharing of foods.• It is a good practice to wash hands before and after we eat.• All food is to be eaten indoors.• If your child really enjoys one or more food items that contain these products, we suggest you make it a “home treat” and encourage thorough hand washing and teeth brushing before coming to school.• If unsafe foods are brought to school, the school will contact the parent of the child who brought in the unsafe food item in order to alert and further educate the parent of our practices.
