February Update

Dear St. Bernadette Families,

February has arrived and the groundhog has predicted an early spring.  Please find below information on what is happening over the next few weeks at St. Bernadette’s CES.

An in-school clinic has been organized by York Region Public Health for students at Black River Public School and St. Bernadette Catholic Elementary School to provide first or second doses to students on Thursday, February 3, 2022.  Please see Parent Memofor more information.

Friday, February 4th is a Professional Activity Day and there is no school for students.

Term 1 Report Cards and the Kindergarten Template of Learning will be available in the Parent Portal on Tuesday, February 8th at 4:00 pm.  Please let your child’s teacher know if you wish to have a printed copy.

Valentine Activities will take place in the classroom on Monday, February 14th following all safety measures.  Students are welcome to distribute Valentine Cards however we ask that families refrain from any sharing of food items.

February is the month of Winter Carnaval and we will be learning about French culture during the week of February 14th-18th.  Activities such as door decorating and CARNAVAL Bingo will take place throughout the week.  Thank you to Madame Iannello for booking a virtual French concert on Wednesday, February 16th.  Primary classes will celebrate the 100th Day of School on Thursday, February 17th and Carnaval activities will take place that afternoon. More information will be forthcoming.

Ms. Agnew’s Grade 3 class will be preparing a whole school virutal liturgy to honour our patron Saint Bernadette on her Feast Day; Friday, February 18th.  The liturgy will take place at 11:00 am and all families are invited to participate.

Our staff work to acknowledge the contributions of all Canadians through an inclusive lens when delivering the Ontario Curriculum.  During Black Heritage Month in February, we particularly highlight the legacy of Canadians of African Ancestry, past and present.  Over the month, we will be celebrating the many achievements and contributions of people of African Ancestry to the development and culture of our Church and Canada.

Classes will be learning about the Lunar New Year that is most commonly associated with Chinese New Year or the Spring Festival.  In 2022, we usher in the Year of the Tiger and celebrations take place from February 1st-15th.

We look forward to this exciting month of learning at St. Bernadette’s CES.  Follow us on Twitter at sbe@ycdsb or visit our website at www.sbe.ycdsb.ca for more information.
