St. Bernadette School Routines for 2022-2023

St. Bernadette School Routines

Classroom Placement:  Parents/Guardians will be sent an email prior just to the start of school stating the name of their child(ren)’s teacher.

First Day of School Entry (weather permitting):  Parents/Guardians are to say goodbye to their children at the edge of the Kindergarten fenced area.  Students in grades 2 to 6 are to meet their teacher in the school yard.  Parents are permitted to be in the yard ‘to assist’ finding the teacher if needed on this day only.

Inclement Weather On First Day:  At 8:55 am students will go directly to their classrooms and the staff on duty will supervise by walking up and down the hallway.

School Bus Transportation:  It is the parents/guardians responsibility to check www.schoolbuscity.com to find their child’s busing information: bus number, drop off and pick up locations and times.  This information can change from year to year.

Please inform/ teach your child the bus number.

Please write a letter to the classroom teacher informing them how your child will be getting home from school on the first day and every day there after.

As well, parents must inform the St. Bernadette Office if their Before or After Care plans have changed so the new address can be entered into the system for bus transportation to be arranged.

Parking and Student Drop Off and Pick Up:  Vehicles are not permitted to enter the bus loop from 8:45-9:15 a.m. and 3:30-4:00 p.m.  This is to ensure the safety of all children riding school buses.

If you are dropping off your child before 9:10 a.m. and picking them up after 3:40 p.m., please enter the east parking lot slowly and cautiously.

Visitors are to enter the school through the main doors.

Morning Routines:  All students are to arrive at school between 8:55 a.m. and 9:10 a.m.  Students should proceed directly to the school yard from their drop off.  It is important to ensure that your child arrives before 9:10 a.m. so he/she can enter the school with their class.  Late students must check into the office for a late slip. Parents should not walk their late child to their class.

Late arrivals interrupt classroom learning.  The Kindergarten students will gather in the fenced area on the east side of the school.  Parents/Guardians are not permitted in the school yard.

Yard Supervision:  School staff supervise students during all recesses as well as before school and when students board the buses after school.  Students are not to be dropped off before 8:55 a.m.

Lunch Time Routines:  Students remaining at school for lunch will eat in their classrooms from 12:05 p.m. to 12:25 p.m.  From 12:25 p.m. to 1:05 p.m., weather permitting, students are outside in the schoolyard.    They are to remain on school property where supervision by school staff is provided.

For safety reasons, we ask that students not bring parent permission forms requesting to visit local stores or restaurants for lunch time.

Picking Up Your Child Early For Appointments:  Parents/Guardians are requested to write and sign a note in the Agenda to the teacher OR enter the early leave on the Safe Arrival attendance system.  Parents are to ring the doorbell outside the main doors and speak to school staff through the intercom.

Please be mindful when you call the office after 3:00 pm to change pick up arrangements, as it is often challenging for the secretary to safely communicate this information.

ALL VISITORS MUST REPORT TO THE OFFICE
